Hi all,
I seem to be getting a little confused here. I am quite new to clustering and DAGs in particular.
So, the environment has a site in the UK and a site in Germany.
The MX points mail to the UK site (as this is the main site), Germany is another site with the same amount of users as the UK site.
A DAG has been created in the UK which contains two database servers in the UK and one database server in Germany.
A DAG has been created in Germany which contains two database servers in Germany and one database server in the UK.
As there are an uneven number of servers in each DAG node majority is being used for quorum.
Now where is become confused is when thinking about the entire UK site going offline. I understand that the exchange database will still be accessible as there is a database in Germany (the purpose of the DAG). However.. if the UK site is down and offline completely then yes the exchange database might be ok but how is mail flow still going to work? As the MX is pointing to the IP address of the exchange server in the UK which of course is down and offline.
Am I missing something? Sure I am. Maybe my understanding of exchange roles is somewhat lacking here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
