I have a lab with 4 exchange 2013 SP1 servers in two different sites (we'll call site A and B). Each mailbox server runs CAS and MAILBOX roles. Each site holds two servers and each site has a witness and alternative witness server setup. There is also a stand alone 2010 exchange server in site A. Each site holds a domain controller (global catalog).
When I create a simulated disaster on site A (full power outage), I am able to restore the DAG in site B and mount the database. Replication shows healthy in that site. My problem is that anyone who has a mailbox on that database cannot access their mail. Outlook MAPI fails and OWA simply displays "The Website cannot display the page" after attempting to login. I attempted to recreate the Outlook profile. No luck.
If I turn on the 2010 exchange server, I am able to send mail to the 2013 database (confirmed receipt). I can also access the ECP when the administrator mailbox is on the 2010 server. ECP is not available to an admin on the 2013 server.
Is there something that changed with the DAG during failover that would prevent users from access the 2013 mailbox until and administrator makes additional changes?
Thank you
