Problem:- My outlook not able to connect to Exchange servers...& emails started on queue. When suspend the replication for remote site. everything get start working .... I found bandwidth is utilizing fully.

Any idea why it started & what I needs to take care

Server Setup

Hey,

We have 2 'in production' sites with only a single Exchange Server in the primary site (Site A). I'm looking into putting a local Exchange Server in the secondary site to be able to achieve :

1) a local server in Site B that stores the mailboxes of those users in that site, so they have LAN access rather than WAN.  Email would still be sent/received through Site A's server though
2) A DAG would be setup for Site B in Site A so if their local server went down they'd still have access via Site A
3) The reverse of point 2)
4) If Site A completely failed, change the public MX records so that email is delivered to Site B.  I know I could add a secondary MX record so it automatically uses Site B if Site A is down, but that would cause Split-Brain, wouldn't it, if Site A came back up and accepted email delivery before the 2 sites were sync'd.  I understand Split-Brain to be out-of-sync databases

We have a 30Mb connection (fiber) between sites.

Thanks for any advice.

Exchange 2013 DAG support standalone Hyper-V with Virtual Guest Clustering?

Hello,

I currently have several standalone WS2012R2 servers running Hyper-V hosting guest VMs.  I have a small user base that is using a consolidated CAS/Mailbox role Exchange 2013 VM on one of the standalone Hyper-V servers.  Since Exchange DAG requires clustering, I am interesting in knowing if Virtual Guest Clustering is supported for implementing a Exchange 2013 DAG. Furthermore, since the DAG doesn't require shared storage, the local storage on each standalone Hyper-V server should be sufficient.  I've never implemented a DAG before and overhauling the existing standalone Hyper-V servers into a cluster with shared storage is not a consideration at the moment unfortunately.  I appreciate any insight.

Dear All

I plan to add one more server to our DAG, Exchange 2013 SP 1. We have around 20 DBs on server with 20 diffrent HDD's attached (VM) for every single DB and its logs

I need some help to understand that do i simply need to create sam server with same HDD space and number or a diffrent size / number can be joined to th DAG.

Currently MBX server are on Windows 2012, can the new DAG member be run on Windows 2012 R2?

Problem with exchange server

Hi all! I’ve got problem with my Exchange Server (2013). I have an error # JET_errInvalidDatabase -1028. What’s the problem it might be? And how it can be solved? It would be nice if there will be any answer, that could help me. Maybe I should install some tool to recover it?

Issue using Get-DatabaseAvailabilyGroup -Status Exch 2010

When trying to use this CMDLET (Get-DatabaseAvailabilyGroup -Status) on Exch 2010, I get a powershell error message:

A server-side administrative operation has failed. The Microsoft Exchange Replication service may not be running on ser

What I don't understand is this server that it's referencing is the witness server to the DAG and SHOULDN'T have this service installed.  Has anyone run into this issue before, and if so, how did you fix it?  I have not tried rebuilding my DAG thus far.

Thanks for any input.

I am testing Exchange 2013 with two CAS Servers. Do the settings and changes made on the CAS Server replicate to each other or it must be done on both servers.

For the DAGs, whats the best way to dedicate a seperate NIC for replication

I install Exchange 2013 with DAG with 2 nodes

after i validate the DAG I found the below

2 sites with users best setup (Exchange 2013)

$

Hi,

I am looking to design an Exchange environment and am looking for some help!

The scenerio:

  • Site A and Site B are in the same domain but different locations, with active users who require email
  • Each site will have a DC and Exchange 2013, running Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Sites have very good\stable internet connection

From what I have read online there seems to be a lot of information but I am not sure what setup would be appropriate in my situation. The different setups I think are relevent

Option 1 - Single DAG

Site A

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server
  • 1 x Witness Server

Site B

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server

The mailboxes will all be in one DAG.

Option 2 - Multiple DAG

Site A - DAG1

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server
  • 1 x Witness Server

Site B - DAG1

  • 1 x multi-roled Exchange Server
  • 0 x Active databases per server
  • 6 x Passive database (no-lag) per server

Site A - DAG2

  • 1 x multi-roled Exchange Server
  • 0 x Active databases per server
  • 6 x Passive database (no-lag) per server

Site B - DAG2

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server
  • 1 x Witness Server

Option 3 - Single DAG

Site A

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server

Site B

  • 2 x multi-roled Exchange Servers
  • 3 x Active databases per server
  • 3 x Passive database (no-lag) per server

Site C

  • 1 x Witness Server

Now I have only mentioned Site C here because it has no servers, however it is a different location to Site A and B and so could host a witness server.

What I am strugling to find (or understand) is what actually happens to the databases in a WAN failure scenerio, in each option. What I am trying to design is a solution that allows Site A and Site B to continue having email send\receive if the WAN link between the sites fails.

Help gratefully appreciated!

EDIT

One last question if I am going with Server 2012 R2 should the FSW also be on the same O/S? What i have read it doesn't matter but surely it would for dynamic quorum?

Global Namespace & POP3

Hi,

We have 2 datacenters and 4 exchange servers, each data center have 1 Mailbox Server and CAS server. We have DAG enabled. We have also configured global namespace to disable redirection of outlook clients should the DAG failover occurs. We had an instance where DAG failed over, outlook clients using outlook anywhere are working as per normal, but for some reason, POP3 users are not able to connect. Does the Global Namespace cover site resilience to the POP3 service as well?

Arthur

Is there such a thing as an Exchange modeling tool? What I am looking for is....

I am designing or trying to do a conceptual design to include two sites with under 30ms response times between sites. I want to include a four member DAG. I have a design that I would like to have reviewed by some type of tool. I just need to see if my design is solid or whether or not something is missing. I am not the Exchange person, but tossed the task of upgrading from Exchange 2003 (in two hops 2010, 2013).

Thanks in advance,

Multi Site DAG

Hi,

We have our primary Data Centre where we have 2 CAS and 3 Mailbox Servers. We have DAG implemented on our primary Site (Site A)

Site A has subnet of 192.168.0.0

We recently added a new DR Site (Site B). Site B have 1 CAS and 1 Mailbox.  Site B have a subnet of 172.1.1.0

Both sites are connected via a VPN Tunnel. Mailbox on Site B has been added in DAG of Site A.

DAG have  2 IPs 192.168.0.32 and 172.1.1.32

We want to make sure that if Site A completely down then  Site B work as an active Site. But when Site A down we are unable to ping DAG and Site B is unable to work as active site. Exchange services are completely down.

Site A has AD(Primary Domain  Controller) and Site B has ADC(Additional Domain Controller).

One thing which we noticed that if our DAG is active on Mailbox of Site A we are able to ping 192.168.0.32. But we are unable to Ping 172.1.1.32 if both sites are up also. Site A has witness server and Site B has alternate witness server.

We are using Server 2012 Data Centre

Please suggest.

Exchange 2013 DR - Only one DAG member remaining

Hi

According to the following article with DAC mode enabled; last remaining DAG member in exchange 2013 will not form the cluster if "alternate file share witness" wasn't rebooted last!!!!.  This is very important to remember when doing testing DR or even during actual DR

http://port25guy.com/2012/12/10/witness-server-boot-time-getdagnetworkconfig-and-the-pain-of-exchange-2010-dr-tests/#comment-2012

http://blogs.technet.com/b/timmcmic/archive/2012/05/30/part-2-datacenter-activation-coordination-and-the-file-share-witness.aspx

My question is -->

Is this concept still true in 2013?  Do you need to be sure that alternate file share witness server has been rebooted last before doing the 3 recovery command (Stop-databaseavailabilitygroup, net stop clussvc, restore-databaseavailabilitygroup)

Thank you

DAG member with low speed WAN connection

Hi

We have a primary site and a disaster recovery site.  There is an exchange 2013 DAG member in the DR site.  Problem is that speed between the physical sites is slow....

Our copy queue lengths are very high now and suspend + resume is not doing us any good.  Also update-mailboxdatabasecopy fails at times.

Is copying the .EDB file from active server on primary site to DR site + update an option?

May some one please explain?

Thanks

Tried migrating exchange folder 2010 to 2013 but the 2010 folder crashed. Fortunately the DB was intact.

Now I need to do a recovery however is it possible to recover directly over to exchange 2013?
