Need to know how to allocate the required bandwidth between two exchange sites.

$

Hi ,

Please have a look in to the below mentioned environment.

primary site :Chennai

server 1

server 2

secondary site : Madurai

server 3

Note : All the above three servers are in single DAG .All the database are mounted on the server (server 1) which is located in the primary site .

On that 5 databases we are having 3500 users .Based on the user designation we have allocated the mailbox size.

Query : Each and every day we are having the large no copy queue length for all the five databases to the server located in Madurai site.

Note : This is an urgent requirement , so please someone help me on this thread and also tell me on what basis i have to allocate the required bandwidth for the exchange servers located between Chennai and Madurai site to reduce the copy queue length .

Without having any data in my hand i cannot blankly go and ask my network peoples to provide so and so bandwidth for exchange servers.

Please help me out on this and also tell me is there any tool available to exactly get the required bandwidth for the exchange servers located between the active directory sites.

Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

Creation of a second Exchange 2013 server on a different site (with the roles of MBX and CAS) fails on prepare active directory and prepare schema.

Hello everyone

I have a network infrastructure  consisting of 3 sites, site A, site B, and site C. i have 2 domain controllers on every site, and the AD roles are on the primary domain controller on site A. On site A I have an Exchange 2013sp1 CU6.

I want to create a second Exchange on Site B, with the roles of mailbox (the exchange on Site A will be first DAG member and the Exchange on Site B will be the second member of the DAG) and CAS.

First question: Is my  thought correct about installaing on the same server mailbox and CAS server?

Second question: how many DAG witnesses I need for the DAG? One per site, or one in general (for example located on site A)

Third question: When I am trying to perform “Setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms”  I receive the error

“ Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory:

The Active Directory schema version (15303) is higher than Setup's version (15292). Therefore, PrepareSchema can't be executed.  See the Exchange setup log for more information on this error. For more information, visit: http://technet.microsoft.com/library(EXCHG.150)/ms.exch.setupreadiness.AdInitErrorRule.aspx

I tried  to run the PrepareSchema from  the ISO of Exchange 2013 SP1 and form the extracted content of Exchange 2013SP1 CU6 archive, but still receive the same error. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2010 recovery didn't recover deleted items to their original folders

We have had a retention policy go through our organization and delete emails with recovery of the last 30 days.  The issue is that even though the items are retrievable that are not restored to their original folders for each user.  Is there a way to recover from a backup before the policy was pushed out to restore the mailboxes to their original state or not?

Question 1:

Can I put a File Share Witness in each site????

Question 2:

If I only put 1 File Share Witness in Site A and Site A goes down, would Site B be still functional???

Mailboxfolderrecovery with Exchange Native Data Protection

$

Hi,

I`m currently facing an issue with deleted mailboxfolders in combination with exchange native data protection and hope some of you can bring up some advice on resolving this issue.

The situation:
Im using native data protection without traditional backup. I now have the issue, that I cant restore a mailbox to a specific moment time. When a folder is deleted all emails are moved to the dumpster, where I store them for 1 year. Apperently the sourcefolderinformation is not stored, which makes it pretty difficult to restore complete folderstructures, when you dont exactly know which mails were stored in which folder (but who knows that :D)
Especialy shared mailboxes will suffer from this issue. When a delegate moves folders to another mailbox, there will not be any clue what the mailbox looked like.

Did anyone of you has/had the same issue and are there any suggestions to resolve this?

Kind regards,

Philip

Exchange 2010: which procedure to temporary power off of all servers of a site and run email service on second site

$

Hello,

we need to power off all Exchange servers (Multi Role servers and usage of external load balancer) of one site and run the services from the second site. This temporary power off (few hours) is required to move hardware to new racks so this is not no need to apply DR procedures.

I would appreciate if you could provide your remarks on the raw procedure below and if you have recommendations in case you have already performed something similar.

1) Do not apply any DR procedure for Exchange (which implies evicting nodes from cluster and using AlternateWitness)

2) Move current File Share Witness hosted on Exchange servers of this site to another server before the HW move

3) Before the hardware move, move the active databases and Virtual IP Load Balancer CAS Array to second site.

4) the day of the hardware move, put the servers in this site in DAG maintenance mode and suspend DB replication then shutdown those servers which will not host any FSW at that time (we will apply the DAG maintenance procedure with script StartDAGServerMaintenance.ps1 and move also Cluster Group to node on second site).

5) After the move, power on the JL serves, check Exchange config and re-sync the databases.

6) Move back the FSW to Exchange servers of the first site (or find another server).

7) Move back the active databases and VIP Load Balancer CAS Array to Exchange servers of first site to go to normal situation.

Many thanks in advance
Kind regards

Can I prevent automatic failover for a period of time?

We have two Exchange 2013 servers (and a witness server) in a DAG.  They are all VMWare virtual.  We have recently migrated our 500 users from Ex2007 to Ex2013, so there is a bit of a learning curve for us. One of the servers "A" is has a better hardware situation than the other "B" server that is offsite.  They both have the same memory and hard drive sizes.  We would like to keep the databases active on the better A server.  There was a situation with our primary A server the night before that caused the databases to be activated on the B server which in turn caused B to run all the resources up to 100% and be very.  I was able to move the active databases back to A and put B in maintenance mode so that it won't fail over to B for right now until we can get B a better hardware situation.

Question is: Is it possible for B to keep getting the logs played to the server so that if there were a catastrophic failure on A, we could essentially activate the databases on B we would be fine.  I don't want it to be activating on B on its own.  I don't want to break the DAG because we want it to be able to eventually be used as designed, but it may be a month or two.  Essentially, can we put the DAG in a manual mode?

Thanks.

DAG Configuration Question

Hey guys

I have 3 Exchange 2013 servers in one site and 3 in another. I currently have them tied into one large DAG and keep a primary plus 2 copies of each database within my DAG. My question is, is this a valid configuration - to have a DAG that doesn't necessarily hold a database copy?

Cheers,

Joe

Hello All,

I have some query regarding the Dynamic Quorum issue:

The environment is two Exchange 2013 in first AD site and another Exchange server 2013 on second AD site. So, total 3 node exchange server.

1. Can i configure DAG with dynamic quorum on this scenario?

2. If first site is totally down then second site can work without any interruption.

3. Is there any need manual switchover in this scenario?

4. OWA and outlook can work if first site down?

5. If first site down then second site exchange server db can automatically mounted.

Thanks,

Add DAG member, Event 4999 MSExchange Common

Hey all

I have a 4 node DAG spread over two sites. I introduce a 5 node, let's call it EX-DR-03, to my second site. Everything fine. I then add 6 node, EX-DR-01, to second site. This causes replication service to fail on 5th node and itself. Databases cannot be mounted (service fail in EAC). I'm seeing multiple Event 4999 MSExchange Common errors caused by MSEXchangeMigrationWorkflow service constantly restarting on EX-DR-01, as below:

Watson report about to be sent for process id: 10340, with parameters: E12IIS, c-RTL-AMD64, 15.00.0995.029, MSExchangeMigrationWorkflow, unknown, M.E.M.L.L.<>c__DisplayClass11.<GetLocalServerData>b__10, System.NullReferenceException, 49af, unknown.

ErrorReportingEnabled: False

This may or may not be relevant, but suspect it could be: EX-DR-01 was previously an Exchange server but I was unsatisfied with the build. I removed Exchange, dropped it off the domain and rebuilt it. The new server now has the same name and IP address.

I really could use some help with this one.

Many thanks!

EDIT: this is an issue with both servers. When added to the dag the replication service terminates unexpectedly:

Watson report about to be sent for process id: 6860, with parameters: E12IIS, c-RTL-AMD64, 15.00.0995.029, msexchangerepl, M.E.Cluster.Replay, M.E.C.R.NetworkDiscovery.ResolveLocalNic, System.NullReferenceException, ee97, 15.00.0995.028.

Cannot add Mailbox server from different subnet to DAG

Dear,

My Exchange Environment has 2 Mailbox servers and 2 CAS servers in HQ office. All these are Exchange 2013 Enterprise CU3 installed in Windows 2012 standard OS. Both the mailbox servers are added to DAG and it is working fine.

Now i am introducing new Mailbox server in my DR site (different Subnet). Mailbox server config is Exchange 2013 Enterprise CU3 installed in Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter OS.

I added new subnet to the DAG and when i tried to add new Mailbox server as DAG member, i receive the below error

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: An error occurred while attempting a cluster operation. Error: Cluster API '"AddClusterNode() (MaxPercentage=100) failed with 0x5b4. Can any one please help me on this?

Exchange 2013 DAG Creation Issue

Hi all,
I'm having an issue creating a DAG in Exchange 2013.
We have a CAS Server which is also our witness server and 2 mailbox servers. All servers running Windows Server 2012 Standard, Exchange 2013 + CU3.

When I try to add the mailbox servers into the DAG I get the following error message:

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: Computer account 'EXCDAG13' couldn't be validated by user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Error: Unknown error (0xc000018b). [Server: EXCMB1.contoso.local]

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: Computer account 'EXCDAG13' couldn't be validated by user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Error: Unknown error (0xc000018b). [Server: EXCMB2.contoso.local]

I have followed all the correct steps:

Step 1 – Pre-Stage DAG Computer Account
- Created a Computer Account in AD with the name of the DAG
- Disabled the Computer Account
- Granted the Exchange Trusted Subsystem group Full Control permissions
- Although this step isn’t necessary as I did the step above, I also added in the Computer Account of the first node EXCMB1.contoso.local and Granted Full Control permissions

Step 2 – Configure DAG NIC’s
- Configured a MAPI/Replication network

EXCMB1.contoso.local:
MAPI Network 172.19.220.45 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 172.19.220.250
Replication Network 10.1.1.1 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway NONE

EXCMB2.contoso.local:
MAPI Network 172.19.220.46 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 172.19.220.250
Replication Network 10.1.1.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway NONE

- Configured the NIC Binding Order
- Unchecked register this connections address in DNS for the Replications Replication Networks
- Verified network connectivity is ok with the MAPI/Replication networks

Step 3 – Create DAG & Add Nodes
- Give the DAG a static IP Address of 172.19.220.47

I have gone through heaps of articles online and I am yet to come across anyone who has had the same error as me?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Exchange 2013 DAG, Multiple Databases per volume.

$

Hey Team

I am reading through some exchange 2013 documentation, specifically regarding multiple databases per volume. I am trying to understand how E2013 is different than e2010 in terms of multiple database per (the same disk or the same volume).

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn789066(v=exchg.150).aspx

To me there doesn't seem to be a difference between the 2 versions, I am able to host multiple databases per volume in 2010 without issue (and probably on 2007)

If I have a 3 Node Dag with 3 copies of the databases such as:

DB-1

Disk 1, Active, Disk 2 Copy, Disk 3, Copy

DB-2

Disk1 Active, Disk 2 Copy, Disk 3 Copy.

Have not I not setup multiple database Per Volume?

Thanks,

Robert

Unexpected DAG mailbox database failover

$

Good evening

I am running a three node Exchange 2013 server environment in a stretched DAG configuration. I have been experiencing a problem recently whereby failover is occurring unexpectedly. Below is a brief description of the environment.

Site 1 (Head Office)

2 x Exchange 2013 CAS/MBX (dual role servers, lets call them A and B)

  • Both are members of the only DAG we have
  • They both have copies of the only mailbox database we have
  • Server A has activation preference 1
  • Server B has activation preference 2

Site 2 (Datacenter)

1 x Exchange 2013 CAS/MBX (dual role server, lets call it C)

  • C is a member of the same DAG as above
  • It hosts a copy of the same mailbox database as above
  • Server C has activation preference 3 (although I have configured it to never automatically activate a database copy)
  • Server C will only be actively used in a disaster scenario where we lose both A and B in the head office for whatever reason

So recently I have noticed that when the mailbox database is mounted and active on server A after a period of not more than an hour or two, the database is automatically moved to server B. This has happened 3 times now.

I find these informational alerts in the event viewer on server A.

DAG members down

Hi, all.

I have 2 sites, Production and DR, and 4 Exchange 2013 servers in a DAG group. 2 servers at each site. All are Server 2012 virtual machines running on Hyper-V 2012 hosts. We have 6 databases that all replicate between the DAG servers.

Yesterday DREX101 at our DR site paused because the host disk ran out of space. We quickly corrected the problem and un-paused the VM. But it then rebooted itself. Also, DREX102 then rebooted itself.

Both DR servers are now showing as "down" in the DAG and I cannot figure out how to get them back up. After the reboots, the database copies needed to be reseeded, which worked fine. But if I try to activate a database copy on one of the DR servers, I get an error:

'DREX102.RAI-Energy.local' is not up according to the Windows Failover Cluster service.

Event logs on DR servers show that the cluster service terminates and restarts.

"Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Status" can be run on the Production servers, and shows all 4 servers as DAG members. But only the 2 Production servers as "OperationServers."

It also shows the following:

ServersInDeferredRecovery              : {Server name: [DREX102] Recovery Due at: [11/18/2014 7:06:46 AM], Server
name: [DREX103] Recovery Due at: [11/18/2014 7:04:41 AM]}

The "Recovery Due" time is always current time + 90 seconds, every time I run the command. It does not seem to mean "this is when recovery will complete."

I cannot find any information on the "ServersInDeferredRecovery" property or what it means. Also, I cannot find a way to bring these DAG members up. Any help is appreciated!
