Microsoft Sharepoint Search Component in Exchange 2013 Passive Copy High CPU

$

Running Migration batches causes failures due to high RQL & CQL on Passive copies

But the passive copy servers are 100% on CPU due to "Microsoft Sharepoint Search Component" there for the servers are in a HUNG state.

I can try the below work around but that still does not solve the initial HANG due to HIGH CPU.

THIS IS A CPU LEAK - Possibly due to a bug in the Exchange search service which runs on "Microsoft Sharepoint Search Component"

Mailbox server back end web services

I am wondering if I am missing something here but there seems to be a fundamental flaw with the front end/back end web services topology...
basically if there is an issue with e.g. the EWS website on a MBX server hosting a copy of my mailbox I would be unable to set my out of office or have other EWS related issues...However the HLB monitoring and directing traffic to my CAS boxes would continue to do so as there is no issue with EWS on the front end, the CAS would proxy the traffic to the back end EWS website and have a problem and the very nature of high availability and automatic failover here has failed. The EWS issue on the mailbox server IIS site is outside of the scope of the DAG to notice so my mailbox would be staying on the server with the EWS back end site issue until I noticed and or moved it...

Are my statements and understanding correct?

Exchange 2013 5 node DAG FSW placement

Hello all

I am running a 5 node Exchange 2013 sp1 CU8 DAG. The DAG spans two AD sites. Both sites contain active databases.  ADsite1 contains 3 nodes, and ADsite2 contains 2 nodes. My question is what site should i place the FSW in? Also if i place the FSW in ADsite2 (2 nodes) in the event i lose the network link, would the DAG still maintain quorum and would the databases in ADsite2 remain mounted?

thank you

Which of the two is the better option? Stellar Phoenix exchange db recovery or Kernel exchange server recovery tool or probably another tool?

I have a couple of EDB files that I need to extract mailboxes from but I don't have an exchange server to fire them up with.

Failover event: Expected user experience

Hi Guys,

I have 4 Exchange 2013 servers, 2 per site with CAS and MBX roles install on all of them. Single DAG, 10 databases. In front of the servers I have an ARR server for reverse proxy and load balancing (actually have 4, with 2 clustered per site) and a shared namespace. Clients are Outlook 2013.

We recently had a failover event where an administrator incorrectly tagged the port of one of the Exchange servers.

The databases on the server were dismounted and mounted on other nodes within 9 seconds - happy with that, all good.

However the end user experienced was very mixed, with some clients barely noticing an impact, and other were reporting up to 15 minutes of disconnect before reconnecting...

Can anyone help me work out why it took some clients, so long to reconnect again? ARR notices via health checks that a server is offline within 2 minutes, so I'd expect up to 5 minutes of downtime for clients whist ARR drops the server and clients establish a new connection - but 15 minutes is far longer than I would expect.

Any ideas, or suggestions on how I can investigate further would be great. I'm assuming it's related more to the CAS roles than the DB's due to speed of mounting...

Thanks - Steve

Multiple Databases per volume ??

hi all,

i do not understand this point :  "Multiple Databases per volume let you have both active and passive databases on the same volume " ok right

it was also possible in Exchange 2010 in jbod configuration...

in place in our orga 2010.

2 dag member : 2 disk par server

disk 1 :

DB1 + logs active

DB2 + log passive

Disk 2

DB2 + logs active

DB1 + log passive

it s the reason why i dont get the enhancement for this point..

can somebody kindly explain me why Multiple Databases per volume in ex 2013 is a new feature?

DAG for local and DR side

Dear All,

I am planning to implement DAG on my local data center and on my DR site. Right now I have one CAS and one Mailbox server in my data center and now implement other mailbox server with DAG. In my mailbox five databases have been configured and I have concern if implement DAG with current databases will not impact on my running Exchange services and databases and will not get any issue on user side as well.

Please guide.

Thanks,

unified namespace for the site resilient datacenter pair (unbound model)

Hello All

Running Exchange 2013 sp1 RU8

We have a DAG that is stretched across two datacenters. Both datacenters contain active databases. We have one namespace that covers both datacenters. Each datacenter contains a vip.  Below is the configuration, the roles are on dedicated servers.

DC1. 4 CAS servers and 4 MBX servers VIP1 = mail.mydomain.com

DC2. 4 CAS servers and 4 MBX servers VIP2 = mail.mydomain.com

If a user whose mailbox lives in DC1, hits the VIP located in DC2, will the CAS server located in DC2 proxy the  traffic to a CAS server located in DC1, or will the CAS server located in DC2 proxy the request directly to the mailbox server in DC1 that host the database were the users mailbox lives? Is this the same behavior for all clients ? i.e. OWA, outlook anywhere EAS?

thank  you

CAS Cluster

I've setup exchange before but never in a cluster across multiple AD Sites which is what we are now in the planning stages of doing.   So I have a couple of questions.

1) Is a load balancer required in order to ensure high availability of emails being received externally?

2) Are there any special requirements needed because the cluster will be across AD sites?

The big concern from the partnership is that we are able to continue to send/receive emails even is one of our AD sites experiences an outage such as a power outage.

Exchange 2010 Reseeding mailbox with Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy

Hello

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but the list would only allow me to select Exchange Server 2013.

I have a 2 node Exchange 2010 DAG and on one off the mailbox server one of the databases has come up "Failed and Suspended".

So I went about fixing the problem in powershell with "Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity <DatabaseName>\<Servername> -DeleteExistingFiles".  Proplem I have is I am unable to tell if the script is running or not.  The script has been running for over 12 hours but nothing output to screen, no indication if it is doing anything or not.

Is there a way I can see if the script is doing anything or not?

Thanks

Exchange 2013 DAG on 2 virtual servers storage considerations- VMDK or RDM?

Hello guys,

I have 2 VMWARE Servers in DAG - both with mailbox role.

Which storage type is better for databases and logs for higher availability- VMDK or RDM?

I did not find official document which strictly recommends which one?!

DAG - missing Failover Cluster

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with a DAG cluster in a test environment.

The test environment has a two-member DAG which had been working fine for some time. Some time ago (I don’t access the test environment often so I don’t know how long ago) the DAG has failed. The databases are dismounted and will not mount, with an error indicating that Exchange is ‘unable to read from the cluster database’. Even trying to access the properties of the DAG generates the same error.

When I go into the Failover Cluster Manager I can see that the failover cluster is gone – literally! The Failover Cluster Manager shows no clusters at all.  I know for a fact it used to be there (and surely the DAG could not have been created in the first place without an associated Failover Cluster). The DAG computer object still exists in Active Directory.

Any idea how the failover cluster can just disappear?

And I’m wondering, if I manually recreate the failover cluster will it fix the DAG, or is it not that simple?

We want to know on which and all server the 2013 DB is mounted for last 6 months.?

Hi Experts, We would like to have a report or log, where it says the DB01 is mounted (Active) on SER1 on last month, then it is activated on SER2 this month & it  is activated on DR Server.......like this.

This information is required to submit to our auditors regarding DR activation. Means this would be prroof for us to show that we have activated the DR server and all the DBs were mounted on DR server monthly basis.

Exchange 2013 DAG - Failover Cluster Warnings

$

I have two new Exchange servers (PROD1 and DR1) that I recently updated to CU8 in preparation for going into production.  After reboots, I noticed that I had a warning on the "Server Manager" window.

PROD1 lists itself, DR1, and DAG1 as servers though it marks DAG1 as not accessible.

DR1 lists only itself and PROD1.  It does not list DAG1.

PROD1 is generating a ton of failover cluster errors (1205, 1254, 1069, 1044) while DR1 is clean.

In the Failover Cluster Manager of each server, the object of DAG1 is listed as "Offline".  It has two IPs - one for each of the Exchange servers' subnets (this is where I think I screwed up).  The IP for PROD1's subnet is 10.2.8.131 and is "Failed" and the IP of DR1 is 10.4.8.131 and is "Offline".  The IP of PROD1 is 10.2.8.132 and DR1 is 10.4.8.132.

Attempts to bring the cluster object online fail "due to the failure of one or more provider resources".

The instructions I followed to set up the DAG did not mention the need for multiple NICs.  I now think this is incorrect and would be willing to use separate subnets and NICs for the DAG if necessary.  (I could use 10.2.12.X and 10.4.12.X instead.)

I am currently still able to fail the database copy between DR1 and PROD1 without any problems.

DAG - obsolete member list

Good morning,

I'm trying to uninstall Exchange 2013 from one of my servers and the readiness check fails with an error about the DAG/Cluster.

Error:

This computer is a member of a database availability group (DAG). It must be removed from the DAG before you can uninstall Exchange.

For more information, visit: http://technet.microsoft.com/library(EXCHG.150)/ms.exch.setupreadiness.CannotUninstallClusterNode.aspx

I had previously removed the server in question (Exchange04) from the DAG, and running the GUI (Exchange Admin Center, Failover Cluster MMC) and PS tools seems to confirm it's no longer a DAG member:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup

Name             Member Servers                                                          Operational Servers
----             --------------                                                          -------------------
Exchange-DAG     {EXCHANGE05}

However, it's still being linked to the DAG somewhere and I'd like to be able to sort this out and move on. I'd appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,

Greg

Exchange 2013 does not show AD people pictures

Hello,

Exchange 2013 is configured in hybrid mode with exchange online. Majority of the mailboxes are located in Office 365. Also we have exchange 2007.

When I open mailbox located on exchange 2013 and searching for people- I don't see their pictures.

All pictures are uploaded to AD, also office 365 mailbox owners can see them.

When I check logs on exchange 2013 server, I get 4002 even id:

Process 10556: ProxyWebRequest FederatedCrossForest from S-1-5-21-2000478354-2111687655-1801674531-222614 to https://outlook.office365.com:443/EWS/Gsiedes..contoso.mail.onmicrosoft.com/Exchange.asmx/WSSecurity failed. Somehow, instead of querying user settings from AD, exchange contacting with Office 365?

My additional configuration:

1) EWS virtual directory has external URL and Internal URL which is client load balancer. External URL is a URL for Office 365 federation configuration.

2)Autodoscover external DNS records points to the sane URL for EWS (same hostname). Internal dns a record points to exchange 2007 CAS server.

Any ideas?

Recommded DAG for 4 site Exchange Org

Hi,

I'm with client that has 4 Exchange/AD sites: Virgiinia, California, UK and Germany.

All sites are well connected. Each Database has 3 copies total (CA and VA sharing copies, UK and Germany sharing copies). What would be the best solution in this scenario to have one DAG or 2 DAGS (one for europe and one for America)? Please factor in the scenario where the link between Europe and North America goes down even though there are no databases being share between the two continents.

Merging Datacenters

Our Current setup

We have two sites in

Site 1

1 x Exchange 2010 Mailbox server part of DAG

2 x CAS/HUB 2010 servers in windows NLB

1 x UM 2010 Server.

Site 2

1 x Exchange 2010 Mailbox server part of DAG

2 x CAS/HUB 2010 servers in windows NLB

1 x UM 2010 Server.

Every time the DAG failovers from Site1 to Site2 users need to restart Outlook to connect to the appropriate CAS NLB. The site link between Site1 and site2 is very reliable and stable.

I want to know if we can remove the Outlook Popup/Restart every time we failover the DAG. Is there a way to achieve this.

third site + FWS

Hi everyone,

we are studying a migration from 2010 to 2013 using third 3 site for witness purpose. (PA by Exchange team)

Check below the target architecture

Several questions spring to mind:

Let s assume, PAM is in site A and there is a wan outage between A and B.

=> Site A will retain quorum (with FSW in site C) and all databases will come on-line at that site.

But now lets assume, PAM is in site A and there is a wan outage between A and B AND between A and C ?

Question 1. What happened in this case ?

Question 2. In case of PAM failure a SAM is promoted but in case of the case is up and running but can’t communicate with other SAM? show diagram below :

A new pam is promoted in site A and will lock the witness ?

Question 3. Does PAM always lock witness .log or it can be all dag members ?

thx folks !
