Failover failing, says CQL is 9223372036853891591

I am unable to failover the mailbox databases, this worked earlier today, I updated/patched the server the databases moved off. When I tried to move them back so I could update the other server I got failures saying the copy queue length was 9223372036853891591.

I have tried following the instructions given here (for Exchange 2010 I know, but same error) http://blogs.technet.com/b/timmcmic/archive/2012/05/30/exchange-2010-the-mystery-of-the-9223372036854775766-copy-queue.aspx and it tells me it succeeded but the logs lost is zero. The databases will not mount and both copies say they are passive yet mail still flows.

Any suggestions?

Can't login to mailbox when database is on some DAG members

Hello all,

I have a new DAG we setup with 4 server 2 in each site. Exchange 2013 on Serve 2008 R2.  When the database is activated on any server in site A, everything works perfect.  When the database is moved to site b, users sometimes have issues logging in to OWA and Outlook.  Both site have DC's in them.

Any ideas what could be wrong or where to start looking?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Exchange 2010 - Data Copy (log) drive consuming space rapidly - one particular mailbox database seems culprit!

$

Hello,

Using Exchange 2010, in last few days started getting SCOM alerts stating that the Data Copy (log) drives on our Exchange DAG servers are running low on space.  Free space has been rapidly dropping since that first alert.

Have checked Event Viewer on Exchange servers, can't see anything obviously wrong.

Is there any way (using PowerShell for instance) that I can interrogate a particular mail database to see where most its load is being created?  I.e. Maybe checking which individual mailbox could be hammering the DB?

Exchange 2013 HA with dag across two data center and FWS in 3rd site

dear all,

we are planning configure DAG for our exchange 2013 infrastructure, the setup will be in following

DC 1- one mailbox and one cas server

DC 2 - once mailbox and 1 cas server

Dc3 - file witness server

all the data center are in different network segment

DC 1 and DC 2 have 10gbps fiber connectivity and to DC3 10 mpbs conenctvity

CAS server will be configured with load balcning using HLB and DAG for mail box servers.

I have question regarding the HA in this scenario,

1)if the connectivity between DC1(PAM) and DC2 is failed ,will the databases will automatically mount on DC1 if the PAM is in DC1?

2) if the connectivity between DC1(PAM) and DC3 is failed, but Dc2 and DC3 have connectivity, will the  databases mount automatically at DC2.

3) if DC3 connectivity is failed, DC1 (PAM) and DC2 have conenctivity, will the databases mount at DC1?

4) if the connectivity to DC2 and Dc3 failed, shall  we need to do a disaster recovery scenario?

please help me

Regarding PAM role movement between sites during WAN outage.

Hi All ,

In my environment we have a setup like below.

Production site -  Active site - All the mailbox users are connected to this site

2 mailbox servers site

DR site - Passive site

1 Mailbox server

Scenario : All the three mailbox servers are in DAG .Let assume i have an cluster resources is online on the mailbox server in the DR site because of that mailbox server on the DR site is having the PAM role .So on such case i facing the WAN outage between the production site and DR site .

Question :

While i face the above scenario i will be having majority of nodes in production site.At the same time i would like to know which server in the production site will hold the PAM role after WAN outage ? Or else cluster resources will go offline on the node at DR site and also will it make the mounted databases on the production servers to dismounted state ?

Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

Exchange 2013 setup with Hardware Load Balancer

Hi,

We are thinking of purchasing a hardware network load balancer for our Exchange servers

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898588%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

We currently have two servers (both running as a client access server and a mailbox server) which are in a DAG, Mailboxes are shared between them over 8 databases. Is it possible to put a hardware based network load balancer (probably a Barracuda) in front of these servers?

I have read in the article below that using WNLB would not work in front of servers in a mailbox dag and that you would need to put the Client access role on a different server - but I wasn't sure if that just applied to the WNLB or any network load balancer such as a hardware based barracuda?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898588%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Thanks in advance

Using windows backup to backup exchange database

Hello

I would like to backup exchange database with Windows backup. We have Exchange 2010 on a Windows 2012 R2 server. From the articles I have been reading I would like to confirm the best practice in backing up the mailbox database. Is it recommended to backup the entire volume without exclusions or can I backup the V14 folder only. If the entire volume is recommended, what exclusions are acceptable in order to minimize size of backup.

Thank you

High Database Failure

We are constantly getting "the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Database 'Name' copy on this server encountered a serious I/O error. A lost write was detected. And we check the logs to find nothing useful as to what the root cause of the issue is. So we are trying a few steps to make sure everything is setup right. We moved the offending server to it's own datastore We assured no backups, snapshots, etc are causing it and we even setup anew replication network too. Our setup is three mail servers, one at one site and two at another site. Any body have any insight as to the high rate of failure? Also is it good practice to turn off replication on the MapiDagNetwork and leave it true on the Replication Network?

EDB to PST Converter

Which of the two is the better option? Stellar Phoenix exchange db recovery or Kernel exchange server recovery tool or probably another tool?

I have a couple of EDB files that I need to extract mailboxes from but I don't have an exchange server to fire them up with.

Why do my DAG databases keep switching servers by themselves?

I have a two-node Exchange 2013 DAG spread across two AD sites. I'm trying to figure out why the databases keep switching between the two servers by themselves. For example, I can activate all databases on Node 1 on a Monday morning. By Tuesday PM a handful of them will have activated themselves on Node 2. I don't get any errors or client downtime. It's an otherwise perfect email system.

I've checked that Activation Preference Number is set correctly on each database and node so either the Active Manager is ignoring this setting or some other problem is causing the switch. The problem is that it causes errors with our backups as they get confused as to which database is active.

I should add that although both servers are in two separate AD sites they are physically in the same rack and connected into the same 1GbE router. They're just on two different subnets.

How do I keep them all activated on Node 1?

Hi Team,

I have issue, suddenly my Exchange mailbox move to other passive mailbox with healthy condition, no downtime

I have Exchange 2013 Cu7 and 3 Member DAG

this is event id log when move happened

can you tell me what this event id describe?

is Exchange Server have capability to move database itself if the server is healthy?

Thanks

Unbound Preferred Architecture and Latency

How does an Outlook client deal with latency in an unbound architecture.  Is the Outlook client able to reconnect automatically to a low latency Exchange server once latency to an alternate site is experienced?  I'm thinking more in terms of a slow WAN or WAN outage.

Passive Database Healthy but CopyQueue Length at 9223372036854769389

Hi Guys

I've some questions about my Exchange 2013 DAG.

I'm having two Exchange 2013 in two different Sites (also a Witness Server in Site C):

Site A -- Hex01-- 10.1.1.10/24Site B -- Hex02 -- 10.2.1.10/24

This two Sites are hosting a Database named "DAGDB1".

The Internet Connection at Site A sometimes goes down, so the Database has to Failover to Site B, sometimes Back because of Problems in Site B.

Now after some days the Database on Site B shows "Passive Healthy" and Index: Healthy but the CopyQueue Length in Site B is "9223372036854769389" and the active Database can't be moved to Site B.

Is there something i can tune so the DAG is not sensitive? After a manual Reseed the Database works as excepted (with the Option -DeleteExistingFiles)

Also the Reseed is working with about 30MBit/s, the Connections are 1Gbit Upload on Site A and 100Mbit Download on Site B, why this slow replication?

Regards and thanks for some answers,

Michael

New DAG - 2012R2 & Exchange 2013 SP1

Hi there,

Setting up a test platform running on 2012R2 with Exchange 2013SP1, and whilst all looks ok I simply cannot add any server to a new DAG, I can create the dag without any issues and tried using DAG with an IP, and a simplified DAG without IP however simply cannot add any of my 2 member servers with the following error;

Exchange 2013 SP1 A server-side administrative operation has failed. 'GetNetworkConfig' failed on the server. Error: The NEtworkManager has not yet initialized.

LAN - 10.21.129.111 & 112 / 24

REPLICATION - 192.168.129.111 & 112 / 24

I've checked everything! All sits on vCloud, removed ALL NICs and replaced, removed Symantec, no loss between REPL NICs, all seems fine.  Not a lot in the logs other than these last results;

[2014-03-05T12:51:10] Updating 'MDB001'.MasterServerOrAvailabilityGroup to 'DAG001.
[2014-03-05T12:51:10] database[ 0 ] (MBDB01)'s MsOrDag=DAG001.
[2014-03-05T12:51:10] database[ 1 ] (MDB001)'s MsOrDag=DAG001.

I'm at the end of the road and cannot find anything to help me ;(

Exchange Transport Fail Over Failed

$

Hi Exchange Expert,

We have in premises exchange server running 2010 SP1. Our Exchange Infra is as below. all of the servers below are in the form of Hyper V VM. so, there are 2 physical server and each of them hosting AD, Transport, and Mailbox.

1. 2x Server 2008 R2 AD for redundancy (for instance: Ad01, Ad02)

2. 2x Exchange Transport Server for redundancy (for instance: Tr01, Tr02)

3. 2x Exchange Mailbox Server for redundancy (for instance: mb01, mb02)

For transport server, we actually implement a cluster using the network load balancing manager, so it could load balance. the name of the cluster is Trcluster, which has two members inside, Tr01 and Tr02.

We have also implement DAG for the the database, mb01 and mb02. so mb01 has the copy of mb02 in the server and vice versa. Beside, we also include 2 members at the remote site servers. this remote site servers also has the transport cluster of RemoteTrCluster, with the members: RemoteTr01, RemoteTr02.

However, now one of the physical server containing the Ad02, Tr02, and Mb02 is down. One thing that we don't understand is how come the exchange transport is not able to failover since we have cluster here. it is failed to run. The database is able to failover, but the transport is not running using the Trcluster. So what we do is to failover the database to remote exchange server and then the exchange transport is able to run using the RemoteTrCluster.

Please give any advise of what is going on in our Exchange infra.

Thanks.

Will page read errors in databases replicate within a DAG?

$

Hi all! :)

We've seen a couple of these problems on one of our databases on a standalone server lately.
We had to do a repair and a dial-tone restore to get the customer up and running.

Information Store - MDB01 (9508) MDB01: The database page read from the file "E:\MDB01\MDB01.edb" at offset 282648936448 (0x00000041cf308000) (database page 8625760 (0x839E60)) for 32768 (0x00008000) bytes failed verification because it contains no page data.  The read operation will fail with error -1019 (0xfffffc05).  If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

Will this kind of corruption replicate between the servers in a DAG, or would a lagged DAG avoid this kinds of problems?

Cheers

Resiliency with Two Sites and Two Exchange Servers?

$

Is it possible to remain protected against a full Exchange server failure if you have two sites and only two Exchange servers?

Here is the configuration:
Two Exchange 2013 servers with CU8 each running MB and CA. EXCH-Prod (192.168.10.10) is in Site1 and EXCH-DR (192.168.20.10) is in Site2. All URLs are configured to use mail.company.com. There are two DNS records for mail, one for 192.168.10.10 and another for 192.168.20.10. There are also two autodiscover records pointing to those same IP addresses. Outlook 2013 autoconfigures and connects through Outlook Anywhere at mail.company.com. All Outlook clients are located in Site1. The two servers make up a DAG with one mailbox database MB1 where all the mailboses are located.

Question: Is it correct to say that EXCH-Prod goes offline then Outlook should reconnect automatically to EXCH-DR? I'm getting mixed results in testing and am getting mostly failures that look like a Client Access issues; but if Outlook proxies through mail.company.com then I don't know why that would be.

Test results: Everything works fine if I activate MB1 on EXCH-DR then move it back. If I activate MB1 on EXCH-DR then disconnect the network adapter on EXCH-Prod Outlook disconnects then reconnects about a minute later. If I activate MB on EXCH-DR then shutdown EXCH-Prod Outlook disconnects and never reconnects; I waited 5 minutes. If I shutdown EXCH-Prod without moving MB1 it automatically moves itself but Outlook never reconnects. If I close Outlook, shutdown EXCH-Prod, then Open Outlook it takes about a minute then connects.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

-Jeff
