Exchange DAG Failover - Database best copy could not be found

Overnight two of my 6 MBs failed over, both homed on the same server.  Poking around at the logs I saw the following:

Event ID 806: Database 'MP6' best copy could not be found.
Event ID 806: Database 'MP2' best copy could not be found.

Followed by:

Health validation check 'DatabaseCheckActiveMountState' for database copy 'MP6\cpsmb002' produced a Warning. Error: Active database copy 'MP6\cpsmb002' is in the following state: Dismounted.

Event ID 1011 Health validation check 'DatabaseCheckActiveMountState' for database copy 'MP2\cpsmb002' produced a Warning. Error: Active database copy 'MP2\cpsmb002' is in the following state: Dismounted.

Both DBs failed over as expected and this morning I failed them back without issue.  The only thing going on that time of night are backups, but I have never seen this as a result in the 9 months I have Ex2013 up and running.  By this time the VSS portion was done and it was a simple file copy.  No weird issues on the SAN and no overly excessive IOPS in this time, either. 

Thoughts? Just a fluke?

I know this sound simple but, I can't seem to find it. How can I determine why a passive database becomes active. Is it just straight communications lost or something else. Is there an event ID that would help.

Logs not committing after full Windows Server Backup

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 

The disk space is getting really low so I decided to try and commit the log files by doing a full backup with Windows Server Backup. The backup completed successfully but nothing committed and zero disk space was recovered. Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid flushing the logs. I turned on circular logging in hopes that it would help but on average the disk is reducing by about 1.5GB per day, which is enormous for this client. Something is happening...

Exchange DAG - Content Index issues

Hello,

Sometime I found failover event 3169 in application log on DAG member servers:

(Active Manager) Database DB_NAME was successfully moved from SERVER1.local to SERVER2.local . Move comment: Managed availability database failover initiated by Responder=SearchMountedCopyStatusDatabaseFailover Component=ServiceComponents/Search/High.

On second server I see multiple events 1009 warnings before failover such as:

After some time content index changed its state from failed to healthy.

Current deployment is 2 VMware VM's + equallogic storage for mailbox databases connected via iSCSI.

File share witness configuration with 3 member DAG at two sites.

I have a 3 members DAG ,2 at primary and 1 in DR,and the  file share witness is configured in primary site and if the primary site goes down, will i be able to activate my DAG at the DR site without having the FSW.

DAG DynamicWeight should be 0?

Hi!

I use DAG with two E2013sp1 servers and a File Share Witness on DC. When I shutdown one of two nodes I can see DynamicWeight is still 1 and State is down.

 

Shouldn’t DynamicWeight be 0 in this case?

Here are outputs:

Configuring MAPI and Replication Network for DAG (Exchange 2010 SP3 on Windows 2012 Data Center)

 I am new to exchange 2010/DAG/windows 2012 but I want to implement a 2 member DAG in a hyper-v environment. My questions are?

1. How do I access and configure MAPI network for  the secondary interface? I don't seem to see the MAPI Interface/Connection

2. How do I access and configure the replication interface?

3. Is it mandatory to configure Load Balancer on a 2 member DAG?

4. Can I use a Windows Network Load Balancer if installed on a server that will only act as a witness server?

Exchange 2013 DAG Creation Faild HELP Please!

Hello

I got a problem when creating myDAG, Or putting my servers as DAG Members.

Got 2012 Server Standard and Exchange 2013 on the servers

Witnessserver:2012 Server

EX01: 2012 Standard With Exchange 2013

EX02:2012 Standard with Exchange 2013

Error Message:

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: Computer account 'DAG01' couldn't be validated by user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Error: An attempt to use the specified cluster name failed because an enabled computer object with the given name already exists in the domain. [Server: EX01.contoso.local]

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service does not appear to be running on "ex02". Make sure that the server is operating, and that the services can be queried remotely.

What can be wrong? I choose when creating the DAG DHCP IP Address, it's maybe that setting that I need to specify as Static?

The IP-Address that I put in when Creating the DAG is it the network? or the Witnessservers IP?

Disaster recover

I need help to repair an Exchange environment 2013.

I have two servers, both running the CAS and Mailbox roles, have a DAG is configured. I faked a disaster and tried to climb my structure elsewhere. Restored the AD and when I went to retrieve the first Exchange Server, ran the installation command for recovery and received the error message stating that the server is a member of DAG, I used the following command;

/M: RecoverServer Setup

The link https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638206.aspx orders me to remove the server from the DAG, but how do I do this if the environment this unavailable?

Grateful for the help and sorry if I didn't explain properly.

EXCH 2013 DAG setup

So I have an exch 2013 environment with 1 server. We want to now add a second server at a remote site and setup a DAG. The servers will be in different subnets but can communicate with each other, but they will be in the same domain.

Do I need to setup the second server as internet facing just like the first or do I not have to do that?

I want the users to be able to get to their email from the outside via mobile devices or OWA if for some reason the main CAS server goes offline. I know as long as the main CAS does not go off line but the dbs failover to the second server, the outside users would be fine if the secondary server was not internet facing.. 

Also if the secondary server is internet facing, do I set it up with the same owa urls as the main server.

Any suggestions or help with this would be appreciated.

Moving mailbox databases

We have 2 Exchange 2013 Servers virtual machines set up in a DAG (VMWare).  We have new ESXi hosts and datastores.  We want to migrate the servers and move all databases, files, etc. from the old VMWare environment to the new one.  Are there any guides that spell out how to accomplish this or has anyone done this that could offer suggestions on how to do so?  Thanks!

How to publish exchange 2013 DR site on the internet

Dear All,

I have an two exchange 2013 site,DR and PR,i wish to publish my secondary site also in the internet so that if if my PR site goes down users will still be able to access from PR site.

I want to know who to publish my secondary site on the inter,below is the current scenario of my setup.

1) Two exchange 2013 CAS servers in PR configured with windows NLB and two exchange 2013 mailbox server,autodiscover A record pointing to NLB hostname.and published in public DNS .

e.g external users are connecting to mail.abc.com which is the NLB IP and also published in internet.

if the PR sites goes down how will users connect to the DR site,which IP has to be published to the public DNS to make this work

my exchange server doesnt process outgoing email

My exchange server which is running on disaster recovery site seems doesn't working as what it likes in production when we bring up the server,

The exchange doesn't process any outgoing email from user ,

CAS Role & Seeding Issues

We currently have 2 exchange servers in a DAG with another server acting as the witness. The DAG is working as far as the DB fail over, however there are 2 issues.

The first is associated to the CAS role. When I run Get-ClientAccessServer it shows both exchange servers, however when the primary is booted Outlook clients can not connect until it completes booting.
Both servers are using the same Outlook Anywhere external and internal address. (NTLM) This address is setup as an alias to the DAG name which changes during fail-over.

The second issue is that when the primary Exchange server is booted (during patches) the DBs fail-over to the passive server and the DAG IP switches in DNS as they should. However, each time this happens we have to reseed the DBs before doing a manual fail-back to the primary server. Is this normal?

Please let me know if additional info is needed or I am not clear about something.

Mailbox database shows Disconnected and resynchronizing after activating the database in DR,DAG member

Dear All,

I have a strange issue,we 3 Exchange 2013 mailbox server 2 in PR and 1 in DR,for testing the database health ,i activated one of the mailbox database in DR server to check if everything works fine,although i was able to successfully activate the database in DR and also connect to the mailbox in that database ,but when i tried to activate the database back to the primary site ,i am not able to do so i get the below error.

The seeding operation failed. Error: An error occurred while performing the seed operation. Error: A timeout occurred while communicating with server 'DRMBX'. Error: "A connection could not be completed within 15 seconds." [Database: DR-Drill-Testing, Server: PRMBX.lamprell.com]

i thought its happening because may be i activated the mailbox when the status was not healthy ,so i created a new database which has no mailbox ,when i tried the samething activating it in DR and again in PR i still get the same error.

i can see event id 1111 logged in which says 

Automatic Reseed Manager failed to execute repair workflow 'FailedSuspendedCopyAutoReseed' for database 'DR-Drill-Testing'. Error: The Automatic Reseed Manager encountered an error: The automatic repair operation for database copy 'DR-Drill-Testing\PRMBX' will not be run because one of the prerequisite checks failed. Error: There are no Exchange volumes mounted under root path 'C:\ExchangeVolumes', which are required for the Automatic Reseed component.

please help me with this

How does CAS locate the Mailbox Server hosting the Active Database in a DAG?

How exactly CAS can locate the server hosting the active database? is it done by a service? I know that the Front End Transport Service locates the location of a mailbox by using information stored in AD, so is locating the server hosting the Active Database of a mailbox is done by looking at AD?
