I have a big issue. I have a correct exchange server 2010 where the active directory is corrupt but the information store is good.

I would like to recover a couple of mailboxes to an exchange server 2013.

Can anyone give me a detailed walk through of how I can accomplish this?

Thank in advance

New Dag member anti-virus / malware conciderations

hello. just a quick question.

I am building a 2nd CAS and MBX server for my environment to provide some redundancy in a DAG, our production exchange server runs on ESET exchange anti-virus and the inbuilt malware / virus protection is disabled.

a thought I had was, what anti-virus / malware must the DAG mbx/cas servers have on them, i guess they would only be of concern if they became active.

just wanted to know what the best practice would be.

many thanks

Couple of DR questions moving from Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchagne 2013

Hi guys,

We are currently running Exchange 2007 SP3 and Windows Server 2003 and I'm going to be looking at getting Exchange 2013 and Windows Server 2012 R2 setup sometime this year and before I got started with that project I wanted to get a couple of questions answered.

So our current configuration is this:

- Exchange 2007 SP3 installed on two separate physical systems and using SCR as our DR/redundancy process

- Full Exchange server database backups done twice a week using the Windows Server 2003 Backup and the add-in for Exchange

- Individual mailbox backups done once a week using the Export-Mailbox on a separate machine with the Exchange 2007 management component installed and Office 2007

So for our new Exchange 2013 and Windows Server 2012 R2 setup I'd like to maintain these processes if possible.  So my questions are:

- I understand that SCR is no longer available with Exchange 2013 and has been replaced by DAG.  Is there a straightforward document or documents that describe how to configure this?

- With Exchange 2013 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are full Exchange backups still supported?

- With Exchange 2013 is the ability to do individual mailbox backups using the Export-Mailbox applet still supported?

Thanks in advance

Nick

Database fails over during the night.

During the night a database failover occurs. The eventlog reports

Initiating move for database 'Mailbox_Database_2' (FromServer=<server>, ToServer=, MoveComment=None specified.)

but also:

The copy of database 'Mailbox_Database_2' is losing 1036288 bytes during incremental reseed.

Any idea how to troubleshoot why the database fails over during the night? And also, what does the second warning means? Do I have dataloss or will Exchange correct this by requesting the data again?

MailboxInSiteFailoverException - OWA session error on database *over (Exchange 2013 SP1)

Hi all, I have noticed an issue with OWA when database(s) are failed over between DAG members.  The environments in question (issue can be reproduced in separate implementations of 2013 SP1 all-role servers) are 2 or more DAG members within the same AD site/subnet.  These are also fresh implementations with SP1 and not upgraded.  Exchange servers are load balanced via Netscaler.

So to the issue - OWA users experience the below "..MailboxInSiteFailoverException" message when the database copy is activated.  Exchange does not immediately proxy the requests to the active database.  You can wait several minutes and the issue is resolved by refreshing the browser or if you recycle the MSExchangeOWAAppPool on both DAG members, the issue is resolved immediately (OWA session re-established on refresh).

Testing so far involved opening multiple OWA sessions and activating a database copy.  At that point, upon refresh of the browser the below error is shown (in all test browsers/sessions below) where I would expect any DAG member to be able to proxy the client request to the active database server immediately (and not after several minutes).

Exchange 2013 MBX in DAG along with Hyper-V and Failover Cluster

$

Hi Guys! I've tried to find out an answer of my question or some kind of solution, but with no luck that's why I am writing here. The case is as follows. I have two powerful server boxes and iSCSI storage and I have to design high availability solution, which includes SCOM 2012, SC DPM 2012 and exchange 2013 (two CAS+HUB servers and two MBX servers).

Let me tell you how I plan to do that and you will correct me if proposed solution is wrong.

1. On both hosts - add Hyper-V role.

2. On both hosts - add failover clustering role.

3. Create 2 VMs through failover cluster manager, VMs will be stored on a iSCSI LUN, the first one VM for SCOM 2012 and the second one for SCDPM 2012. Both VMs will be added as failover resource.

4. Create 4 VMs - 2 for CAS+HUB role and 2 for MBX role, VMs will be stored on a iSCSI LUN as well.

5. Create a DAG within the two MBX servers.

In general, that's all. What I wonder is whether I can use failover clustering to acheive High Availability for 2 VMs and at the same time to create DAG between MBX-servers and NLB between CAS-servers?

Excuse me for this question, but I am not proficient in this matter.

Hi
I am running Exchange 2013 SP1 on Win2012 Datacenter edition.

I want to test the Dynamic Corum and Dynamic Witness features of Win2012 R2.

Can I upgrade my OS from 2012 DC to 2012 r2 without hampering exchange ?

Exchange Database Logs not purging

$

Hi,

I have an Exchange Server 2013 environment with 2 mailbox roles. A DAG is configured on both roles.

The problem is that when I take backup with windows server backup, log files are not deleted.

I tried on Active DAG mailbox mbx1 but logs are not purged.

Then I also took backup with windows server backup from passive copy mailbox role mbx2.

I seems that windows server backup is not deleting database log files. I am trying this with administrator's account.

Backup is successful but logs are still there.

Can anyone suggest what should I do to delete database log files. It was working fine before but now it is not working.

An early help in this regard will be highly appreciated as  I am running out of disk space on database log files disk.

I recently upgraded exchange 2013 to SP1. The issue is since the upgradation of exchange server.

Thanks,

Best Regards

Exchange 2013 2 Node DAG 2nd node always in majority

Config:

Node 1: Server 2008 R2 SP1, Exchange 2013 SP1, in Datacenter in AK

Node 2:Server 2008 R2 SP1, Exchange 2013SP1, in Datacenter in OR

Witness: Outside of Datacenter in AK, Server 2008 R2

Issue: Node 2 always holds majority. The core of the users are in AK thus why we geocentered the witness in AK. However, Node 2 is always the Node Majority. The users are experiencing delays with emails and other related delays.

So the question I have is there a way to adjust the config or set up to make it a more 70/30 split or any thoughts on how to get Node 1 hold Majority more often? The only time that Node2 is not majority is when there is a patch reboot on Node2. On next check the majority shifts back to Node2 it seems.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Hi,

We have two sites, HQ have 50 Users and remote site have 200 Users. We will plan to install Exchange server 2013 in HQ with HA design. And remote site's users will connect to HQ's mail server via 5MB WAN link.

Is it facing slow to getting email from remote site if the WAN link only 5MB ?

Anyone who have idea how can I design to install Exchange Server ? Or I need to install Exchange Server on both site with DAG ?

Please help and suggestion.

thanks

DAG Datacenter Failover and client MAPI/OWA failed access

$

I have a lab with 4 exchange 2013 SP1 servers in two different sites (we'll call site A and B).  Each mailbox server runs CAS and MAILBOX roles.  Each site holds two servers and each site has a witness and alternative witness server setup.  There is also a stand alone 2010 exchange server in site A.  Each site holds a domain controller (global catalog).

When I create a simulated disaster on site A (full power outage), I am able to restore the DAG in site B and mount the database.  Replication shows healthy in that site.  My problem is that anyone who has a mailbox on that database cannot access their mail.  Outlook MAPI fails and OWA simply displays "The Website cannot display the page" after attempting to login.  I attempted to recreate the Outlook profile.  No luck.

If I turn on the 2010 exchange server, I am able to send mail to the 2013 database (confirmed receipt).  I can also access the ECP when the administrator mailbox is on the 2010 server.  ECP is not available to an admin on the 2013 server.

Is there something that changed with the DAG during failover that would prevent users from access the 2013 mailbox until and administrator makes additional changes?

Thank you

Exchange 2010 passive DAG database keep Resynchronizing status after reseed

Hi team ,

I had an issue for my DAG Enviroment Exchange 2010 Version 14.1.

Here the history. I have two database server config DAG across WAN. Yesterday My Exchange Server A( Active Mailbox ) turn out disk space log, so I have to delete old log at Server A. I had Windows Server backup too, but I running out of disk for backup, so My backup failed. This is the reason why my disk log turn out free space.J

After I deleted old Log at Server A, My copy Database at Server B ( Passive Mailbox ) at failed state. So after space is enough at Server A, I reseed the database, but status of the passive database stillresyncronize a whole day. I already delete the copy mailbox database and then ressed from zero, still had same issue

So this is my log create at Passive database Server B

MSExchangeRepl 4128 Warning

The active copy of BTEL-BRZ-DB03 has a missing or corrupted log file (E0Dxxxxxx.log). As a result, existing log files and any partial data will be moved to a new directory -------DatbasePath------------ These files and data will be automatically deleted from the directory after 30 days.

MSExchangeRepl 4127 Error

The active copy of “Database” has a missing or corrupted log file (E0xxxxxxx.log). To keep this copy healthy, replication will restart at generation 6303370. A full backup must be performed before an incremental backup is possible.

So this is my log create at Active database Server A

MSExchangeRepl 2156 Error

The log copier for database 'BTEL-BRZ-DB03' could not send a log file to server“PassiveDatabase” because An I/O error occurred while attempting to access file'DatabaseLogPath' on source server “ActiveDatabase”. Error: File 'path\EDxxxxxxxxx.log' could not be opened. The system cannot find the file specified

I also failed to truncated log when backup is completed at active database /Server A ( I move backup path destination  to testing the issues )

MSExchangeIS 9782 Error

Exchange VSS Writer (instance f2ff04b9-1c84-4d2b-b519-c395dabc2dfa:3) has completed the backup of database 'Database' with errors. The backup did not complete successfully, and no log files were truncated for this database.

Can You help me find the root cause and solve this issue?

Thanks :)

database corruption Exchange 2010

On Wednesday this week 1 of the hard drives in our exchange server crashed. I replaced the hard drive.

Everything was ok while the server repopulated the drive, Then yesterday i received a number of event's  531 Database Corruption errors 8 in a row, then no more after that.

Then today i rebooted the server and got number of ese event id 300 Logging recovery. Does this mean everything is ok? I'm nervous if i let it go until Monday Once it's under a significant load there will be another instance of database corruption.

I have a backup of the database (just a copy) from two days ago.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Exchange 2010 DAG - Backup fail during seeding

$

Hi

We are running Exchange 2010 SP2 with 2 MailBox servers, 2 CAS & HUB. We have a DAG consisting of 6 Databases. Average Database size is 400GB.

On our DR site, we have configured same number of Exchange servers. Successfully added 2 members to existing DAG. When tried to add the database copy, backup start failing and database got unmounted because log files drive was full.

Questions: Is backup is expected to fail during seeding?

Ahmed

Exchange 2013 DAG Creation Issue

$

Hi all,
I'm having an issue creating a DAG in Exchange 2013.
We have a CAS Server which is also our witness server and 2 mailbox servers. All servers running Windows Server 2012 Standard, Exchange 2013 + CU3.

When I try to add the mailbox servers into the DAG I get the following error message:

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: Computer account 'EXCDAG13' couldn't be validated by user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Error: Unknown error (0xc000018b). [Server: EXCMB1.contoso.local]

A server-side database availability group administrative operation failed. Error The operation failed. CreateCluster errors may result from incorrectly configured static addresses. Error: Computer account 'EXCDAG13' couldn't be validated by user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Error: Unknown error (0xc000018b). [Server: EXCMB2.contoso.local]

I have followed all the correct steps:

Step 1 – Pre-Stage DAG Computer Account
- Created a Computer Account in AD with the name of the DAG
- Disabled the Computer Account
- Granted the Exchange Trusted Subsystem group Full Control permissions
- Although this step isn’t necessary as I did the step above, I also added in the Computer Account of the first node EXCMB1.contoso.local and Granted Full Control permissions

Step 2 – Configure DAG NIC’s
- Configured a MAPI/Replication network

EXCMB1.contoso.local:
MAPI Network 172.19.220.45 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 172.19.220.250
Replication Network 10.1.1.1 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway NONE

EXCMB2.contoso.local:
MAPI Network 172.19.220.46 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 172.19.220.250
Replication Network 10.1.1.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway NONE

- Configured the NIC Binding Order
- Unchecked register this connections address in DNS for the Replications Replication Networks
- Verified network connectivity is ok with the MAPI/Replication networks

Step 3 – Create DAG & Add Nodes
- Give the DAG a static IP Address of 172.19.220.47

I have gone through heaps of articles online and I am yet to come across anyone who has had the same error as me?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you
