We are currently working on building a 3 Exchange 2013 server setup, 2 servers will be Production Servers, and 1 will be a DR Server.

The issue we are having now is if anyone of the three servers is down, Outlook 2010/2013 disconnects and will not reconnect until all servers are operational again. This happens for both Outlook 2010 and 2013. Outlook Web App does not appear to be affected by a single server outage and remains fully operational.

I have exchange server 2010 sp2. Once a month we have a marketing letter that gets emailed. A small 250k word doc. They send 2 emails each to a group of 30-40 people.

I alsways get this error message a few hours after they send it, and i see it sitting in the mail queue.

Last Error: 421 4.4.1 Service unavailable, error interacting with downstream server

I believe i have my limits set high enought, but this error does not seem to be referencing any size or limit issues.

We are building out our new Exchange 2010 with SP3 setup in a DAG environment here is the setup:

NEW JERSEY LOCATION:

HOST SERVER:

Hp Server running windows 2012 hyperv - HOST BOX

GUEST SERVER:

Windows 2012 VM with Exchange 2010 SP3 (DAG SETUP) 5 Mail Stores that will be replicating to our CALIFORNIA OFFICE

My question is the CAS\HT part if we have a network failure i would like:

1. DAG to kick in and run the MXB portion from the CALI office

2. Have outlook be smart enough to reconnect to the CALI Location and make it seem transparent to users that anything happened

3. Once all is fixed in NJ fallback

I understand to achieve this i would need a CAS Array? Meaning i would have to setup a secondary VM in both locations just for the CAS\HT roles and then create a NLB? Or is there a different way we could have redundancy by just having 2 exchange boxes replicating.....

CAS Array question:

1. If the CAS array is configured the name of the CAS Cluster becomes my Outlook Exchange Server Name?

2. How should i size my box? We will have about 1500 Exchange objects and HT Rules up the yingyang....

Single Forest / Domain

AD SITE A:  2 x 2008 R2 DCs (Subnet 1), 3 x Exchange 2010 Mailbox Servers in a DAG, 3 x CAS / HT dual-role servers load balanced.

AD SITE B:  1 x 2008 R2 DCs (Subnet 2)

Full Daily Backups of Exchange nodes plus Databases

Complete site disaster occurs at Site A, never to return to service.

Question:

What is the most efficient method of restoring Exchange services at AD Site B?  Believe this could be Build New Multi-Role Exchange server and use Database Portability methods to restore data into this new server at AD Site B, but would welcome thoughts as to the quickest and most efficient method of restoring service.

i would know what is the encryption types used in DAG 2013 and is thecertificates required ,or it is not used at all ?

And what is the connection types between 2 mail boxes in a DAG is it RPC-HTTPS ? or different port (64327) for replication ? if the repl port used what we use the other ports for ?

I have to CAS servers in a CAS array and DAG with 5 databases on each server.  I've noticed lately the 5 databases from CAS1 will suddenly be mounted on CAS2.  Is there a reason my 5 databases will not stay on CAS1?

Hi Experts,

I have 4 virtualized Exchnage 2013 Servers (Multirole) on Hyper-V 2012 cluster. I have created a DAG. Whenever I try to add members to it, IE10 crashes. In fact, IE10 keeps on crashing randomly at any time, irrespective of what I am doing with my Exchange EAC.

I am not sure what is causing this: maybe, the fact that I am using trial licenses for Exchange (however, WinServer2012 DC edition is fully licensed), or some problem in Exchange itself (maybe the reason could be that I have not purchased certificate from a CA & I am simply using the default self-signed certs that get installed along with Exchnage 2013 deployment). However, that should not be an issue because it gives the warning not to proceed which I conviniently ignore. There is no reason why that would ever cause IE10 to crash. I have tried running IE10 in both compatibility mode & otherwise but the issue persists. Googling does not indicate anything relevant on any forum. It is a lab deployment so there is no question of any Anti-virus or add-on with the IE10; no personalized settings on IE10 whasoever.

 In fact, this is a fresh deployment of virtual servers & exchange 2013. I have not seen this issue with other applications deployed on WIn2012 & IE10, i.e. Lync Management Console & Sharepoint Mangement Console running on  IE10 browsers are not having any issue, so I suspect it to have something with my Exchnage deployment itself. I have deployed 100's of Exchnage 2013 servers on Wndows 2012 servers but IE10 used to crash frequently in all cases.

Its been months since I have trying to fix this but to no avail. If anyone could help me fix this, I would very grateful.

I have 2 Exchange 2010 SP3 mailbox servers on top of Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. Both are in the same site/physical location/IP subnet. No firewalls or anything in between, windows firewalls disabled on both machines.

I am able to create the DAG and add the first member successfully but the when i try to add the second one the error given below occurs. Interesting is that same happen if i try to add the servers in opposite order - the first one goes ok, the second is not possible to add.

Hi ...got exchange 2010 CAS/HT x2 and DAG 2 node with SP2 RU4v2.  Planning an upgrade to RU6 ... Any know issues or things i need to watch out for ....  I did a test uprgade my stand alone exchange and ofcourse no issues?

 We have restored the Windows Image of 2008 Box after successfull restoration, we canot start Information Store servcie, System Attendant Service, Exchange Transport Service. The Exchange Server 2007 SP1 was intsalled on same 2008 Domain Controller.

 The Exchange was uninstalled previous and restored back with Windows Backup Imange.

I would like to build a Disaster-Recovery solution for an Exchange 2013 server.

I don't need H-A, or true clustering, I can tolerate a downtime of 30 minutes, a data loss of max 15 minutes and an automated failover is not mandatory (but it is desirable).

The budget should be limited to 10K EUR.

I'm thinking about using 2 physical servers (P1 and P2), each having its own internal SATA disks, and running W2012 standard; on 1 site.
On P1, I create 2 VM : Exchange server (EXCH-SRV) and application server (APPL-SRV)
On P2, I would like to create 2 identical VM, and use them as failover of the VM of P1

Questions :

2) If it is possible, my main concern is the Exchange DB consistency :would it be possible to restart Exchange on P2 after a crash of P1 ?
3) And, would this allow to have an automated failover (invisible for users) from P1 to P2 when P1 is down ?
4) Do I need specific additional components (NIC, specific licenses...) ?

I have already found many posts about the use of VM replica between servers using internal disks.

However, I have not foundinformation about the integrity ofExchange files.  I must be SURE about the consistency of the Exchange DB on P2.

My setup is simple, Exchange 2013 Enterprise installed on 2 Mailbox only servers running on Windows 2012

This is a LAB environment running VmWare, single NIC on each Mailbox Server:

NIC Properties>IPv4 Properties>Advanced>DNS>Register this connection’s addresses in DNS is unchecked

Sequence of events goes like this:

1. CNO pre-staged (& disabled w/Exchange Trusted Servers granted Full control)
2. Create DAG on first server:

New-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Name DAG1 -WitnessServer XXXXXXXX22 -WitnessDirectory C:\DAG1 -DatabaseAvailabilityGroupIPAddresses nn.nnn.nnn.nnn

1. Add first server--this always succeeds, regardless of which server goes first.
2. Add second server--this always fails, regardless of which server goes first.

Error when adding server 2 after server 1 successfully added

Exchange 2010 (& DAG) was removed prior to the introduction of 2013 (Exchange 2007 remains)

Hello,

I am simply unable to add mailbox database copy to a mailbox server in the DR site.

I have only one Active Directory site but in reality  my DR is connected to the HQ over 10Mbps WAN link and my vlan is streched across the sites. I get the following error when i try to add a mailbox database copy to the DR mailbox server.

I have tried to sync from two source servers but got the same error for both of them so i rule out the possibility for a disk issue. Test-Replication show all tests as passed. GetMailboxDatabaseCopyStatus is clear as well. Database copies were working fine before the same server was in the HQ datacenter but after moving it to DR it is giving the above message.

Please help.....! Somebody..Anybody!!

Hi,

I was told by my boss to create a Backup Recovery Plan or let say a continuity plan. I don't know the exact term of this but this is the scenario.

We are planning to build another exchange or mailbox server which is 5 km (diff building) away from our main data center. The main function of that new server is to just be a temporary server if our main data center is down (lost power or no internet). When our main data center is up, we will just switch off the connection from our temporary data center.

Do I need to build the same server what we had in our main building? do I need to copy the whole database from main? Is there any program that i need for this, etc.

I just need more information or any suggestions before giving a proposal for my boss.

i know it's not correct to post for exchange 2003, but i guess this issue is same for all the versions.

I'm using exchange 2003. I'm new to current organization, previous admin, maintained single datastore for both webmail users and normal users and backed up that single store. After i joined i separated web mail users and normal users by creating to datastores so that i can easily backup only webmail users, since normal users use pop3 protocol and no mails for them on the server. 

The main problem is, is it possible to restore old mail boxes using RECOVERY DATABASE, because i'm getting error something like "either backupset or database not present exchange"i think it's because i changed the structure of the data stores, but i left the old datastore name as it is and created a new datastore for web mails users. 

Please tell me is it not possible, if i have to restore what should i do, do i need to remove new datasotre or what ?

I know that alternate fileshare witness is must while configuring the Exchange 2010 DAG with DR setup however i want to check alternate file share witness requirement for DAG with 2 Nodes in same Datacenter.

Ex: If i have only 2 Mailbox Servers configured in DAG and both Mailbox Servers are in same Datacenter then primary file share witness is required to have the configuration of Node and File Share Witness Majority.

1) At the same situation is it strongly recommended to have Alternate File Share Witness ? If not configured is this considered as risk ?

2) Consider that Alternate File Share witness is not configured and Primary File Share Witness is down, at that situation will i be able to Mount/Dismount Database ? Will i be able to move Database from one Node to other Node ?

Pls help to get the above details, not able to find clear answer.
