Hello guys,

I'm testing some stuff in my  virtual Lab. I have 1 DC 2008 SP2 with Ex2007SP1 + 1 Transport Edge 2008 SP2 - EX2007SP1 .

I added 2 new Servers in my "domain.local"  : DC2012 and 2012R2+EX2013.

To respect the coexistance of Ex07 and Ex2013 i had to upgrade Ex07 to SP3. The upgrade was perfect and it didn't show any issue but the localhost/owa does not work . I didn't find nothing regarding this error , I found 3 articles  but they were useless.

Could You please Help me ? Now i'm installing RU10 .

How to handle Public Folders

I know my title doesn't really sound like it relates to high availability/DR, but I have a situation where Public Folders prevents access for end users when a particular member of a DAG is down. I have 4 sites running Exchange 2010. Each site has a replicated copy of all public folders. My main site has two servers, both in a DAG. I mounted all the DB's on Server2 and shut down Server1 to work on the hardware. The public folder DB is on Server1. Users could not launch Outlook, so I had to abort mission and power the Exchange server back up. It could work around this pretty easily for server maintenance by understanding this, but how are you supposed to handle Public Folders so that if a member of the DAG does go down?

We have 2 Exchange 2010 servers and trying to setup HA/failover using DAG setup with DNS Round Robin

Both servers have mailbox, CAS and Hub roles. We are planning to configure DAG and then setup Network Balancing through DNS Round Robin by creating multiple A records for MX record on the external DNS and internal DNS with minimum TTL. My question is what will happen to the emails in transit if one of the servers goes down ?

correct configuration of server IP's and MX records for reverse lookup

Hi All,

I am trying to get the correct way of setting up our DAG and how it appears on the outside world. I am trying to stop certain spam tools doing reverse lookups and blocking us based on the setup of the server, routers and mail header. The best thing I can do is describe how it is set up.

DAG is 3 MX servers over 2 subnets, and a CAS server. MX1 MX2 CAS1 MX3

mail.ourdomain points to 188.x.x..85 this points to CAS1 via the router

the router first IP is 188.x.x.75

MX1 188.x.x.96

MX2 188.x.x.205

MX3 85.x.x.10 (different site)

each server has a dns record, MX1.mydomain ect a lookup on MXtoolbox returns MX1 MX2 MX3 with the above IPs

the routers are set so the outgoing IP of the mail servers is specific to the IP. (not just the mainf the router)

each mail server is set in its headers to be from mail.mydomain

should each server have its own header information and not be set to mail.mydomain?

hi

Unable to add member to DAG

A server side database availability group administrative operation operation failed with a transient error. 
Please try the operation again. Error:  An error occured
while attempting a cluster operation. Error: Cluster API failed "CreateCluster() failed with 0x5b4.
Operation returned because timeout period expired

I am using Exchange 2013 SP1 on win2012 R2

Server1(MB CAS)
MAPI- 192.168.1.10 Replication NIC : 10.0.0.1

Server2(witness Server)
MAPI -192.168.1.11 Replication NIC : 10.0.0.2

i just assigned the ips to replication NIC thats it.Do i need to team the adapters on exchange and witness server?
I hav created DAG with below settings

New DAG name :MYDAG(disabled CNO in dsa.msc)
Witness server : ws.mydomain.com
witness directory : c:\dag01
ip : is this right ip(i have assigned mapi ip of witness server i.e 192.168.1.11)
please guide me

Client connection problems

Hello everyone,

First of all, i made a mistake when selecting the topic. We have Exchange 2010 SP1

We just configured our HA and Disaster Recovery, but we are having some troubles.
We have a Availability group for our 2 (HUB/CAS) server which are working error free.

The group has IP *.*.*.111
The two server have *.*.*.103 and .104

When I add a profile to my outlook, and add it it mostly works fine.
Sometimes it gives an error it cant connect to Exchange.
Or else when i open Outlook it can't load my folder and profile.


OWA is working, and on a mobile device it is also working.

Please help me out.

DAG replication nic

HI
I have one exchange 2013 SP1 server holding both Mailbox and CAS roles,
I want to come up with DAG, so i am going to setup a witness server.

SRV1- Exchange 2013 SP1(MB,CAS)
SRV2 -Witness Server

Do i need replication NICS (As i have only one member i.e one server holding  both MB,CAS).

I dont have any issue configuring replication NICS but is it recommended in my scenario?
I am aware it is recommended when you want to add two members to DAG.

Readd Servers to DAG after Disaster

This past week we had a bit of a disaster. One of our AD servers went down. We restored it from backup but that broke some aspects of AD which killed our Exchange servers. We recovered Exchange and all the mail but now we are left with an issue and I am unsure where and how to tackle it.

We have 4 Exchange servers that used to be part of a DAG. Now only 2 of those servers (EX-MBCAS1 and EX-MBCAS3) are still part of the DAG. The other 2 servers (EX-MBCAS2 and EX-MBCAS4) are no longer in the Dag.

We have 5 Databases total. Two of those Databases are on DAG servers with a passive copy on the second server. Once more database is on just EX-MBCAS1 with no copy. The other 2 databases are on one of each of the other non-DAG servers. One database on EX-MBCAS2 and one database on EX-MBCAS4.

I want to readd the 2 severs back to the dag and get copies of all the databases going across at least 3 servers each.

Each server still has old copies of the databases it no longer has Active or Passive copies of. I also have a Witness server called EX-Witness. These are all Hyper-V VMs.

What do I need to do to Readd the servers to the DAG?

Do I need to delete the old non active copies of the databases from the other servers (ie do i need to delete the copies of the database being hosted on EX-MBCAS2 from EX-MBCAS1 since Cas1 no longer holds an active or passive copy) then add a new copy at let it completely reseed or will it find the old files and just sync them up?

Is there anything else I need to be aware of before I start this process. This is a production environment and I don't want to cause much if any downtime.

When I try to simply add the 2 servers back to the DAG through the ECP I get the following:

Multiple Edge Roles

Hi,

We have multiple CAS and Mailbox roles for High Availability. In case if any CAS server goes down, other CAS server become active. Same is with the case of Mailbox Servers.

The thing is can I implement the same for Edge Server Roles? In case if our edge server goes down, can we have more than one edge server for High Availability?

Exchange 2010 Cant Add database copy at DR Site

Hi Team.

I Had 6 Strech DAG, 3 at HQ and 3 at DR. I have DB1 and DB2. in My DAG3-DR. i want to add mailbox database copy from mounted database at DAG1-HQ.

First I add DB1. seeding proses still ongoing. but when I try to add DB2 database copy. this error show. I already cleanup the log and edb. but still have the same issue

Error:

Database can not mount. In this Database domain Administrator mailbox have.

Witness file server behaving strangely

Hi Guys,

I've configured two exchange 2013 servers with CU7 and a file share witness server. My server is up and functional. databases are mounted and my DAG IP and FQDN work. I've added a db copy to my other server.

But when I go to failover cluster manager it says there no witness server (Witness: none). At the bottom under File Share Witness it says <not configured> and if I try to bring it online I get an error

Cluster resource 'File Share Witness (\\cebu.server.local\Dag.server.local)' of type 'File Share Witness' in clustered role 'Cluster Group' failed. The error code was '0x57' ('The parameter is incorrect.').

There is also no file in the share.

I would expect my hard drives to become unmounted, but they are mounted and everything seems to be chugging away. This is a new install so it's not in production yet.

any thoughts or ideas?

Exchange 2013 Recovery, use OST files

Hello

Please your help.

We have the following scenario:

A farm of Exchange 2013 Servers, due to a power supply failure, all of the information is corrupted including the backups.

So far a installation in recovery mode has been done, but as long as the backups are not available; when the users configure their Outlook client, the OST file is overwrited and all the mailbox data is gone. All of the users use Outlook as email client.

What we want is to synchronize the mailbox data from the OST files, the normal process would be to convert the OST to PST and the import it into the user's mailbox.

Is there a way where the Outlook clients automatically synchronize the data from the OST to the Exchange mailbox Database without the requirement of the previous OST to PST convertion and import process??

Any help is welcome!

AD Topology Error

Hello everyone,

I'm having the following issue.

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1300). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered the following servers with the following characteristics:
 (Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable | PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version)
In-site:
PDC02.**.local	CDG 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0
PDC01.**.local	CDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
 Out-of-site:

PDC02 is having some isues, since it's not reachable like stated above.
I would like to make it identical to PDC01, but I can't figure out how.

2 Exchange 2013 Servers in 2 sites

Hi. I have 2 Exchange Servers total, one in main site and the other one in a branch ofice. Both of them belongs to the same forest, and also both of them have MBXand CAS roles installed. The goals is to have them in a Database Copy configuration so both of them have the same DBs in case of an issue with any of them (if this is the proper design configuration).

After 2nd server installation I'm not able to connect to it through PowerShell (even though I'm logged on locally in it) as it redirects the connection to the 1st server. Within ECP (of the primary one) I can't see the 2nd server in the Servers tab, nor the default DB it hosts.

I'm very confused about what the design must be in order to have them replicated with the same functionality. Would you please advice?

No client access on DAG switchover - Single site

Let’s summarize my environment:

I have 3 Exchange 2013 SP1 (cu4) server in one site. CAS01, only have cas role and MBX01&MBX02 have only mailbox. Both mailbox are in a DAG (DAG01).

The server mounting my database is MBX02. Whenever a switchover to MBX01 occur (or when I force it whith Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase –server MBX02 -ActivateOnServer MBX01), all my client get disconnected so no more outlook, active sync and even owa. As soon as I roll them back on MBX02, everything returns to normal. However, every single email delivered while the DAG was mounted on MBX01 are getting delivered to the mailbox server so dag is working properly for the mail flow, minus the client access HA.

Now I know that on Exchange 2010 and the issue could have been with the value of –rpcclientaccessserver on my database, but this value is not used anymore on 2013.

 

Any ideas?

Cluster Group Owner

Hi Guys,

I have DAG extended to two sites (Primary and DR).

I have moved Cluster group owner to DR mailbox server using power shell command.

Now, when I try to move the cluster group owner back to a mailbox server in the Primary site, It doesn't work.

It (PAM role of exchange) switches back to DR mailbox node automatically, any idea why is this happening ?

E2013 namespace, unbound and DNS round robin

Hi,

Just check Ross Smith's blog abuot namespace for E2013. He stated on "Figure 2" that VIPs per DAGs are behind single namespace "mail.contsoso.com" and clients reach those by DNS round robin. Anybody knows the answers for the questions:

How clients find the other VIP1 if VIP2 is down, but client has got on the responce from the DNS with VIP2's IP?

Do you need to have one IP per DAG? Would be it be possible to have one VIP only?

Stretched DAG

I have a stretched dag over two sites. The primary site has three nodes and the secondary site has two nodes.

Each site has active databases for users on that site.

My question is, what happens if the link between the two sites goes down but all servers are still functioning? I understand I should bring the AFSW on line in the secondary site, but what stops a copy of a secondary site database coming online in the primary site and vice versa?
