Hi,

We have a Site A and Site B. Site A have 2 Mailbox Servers and Site B also have 2 Mailbox Servers. We have a DAG between on all 4 Mailbox Servers. We also have a third site on which we have our Witness Server.

Our Active Site was Site A. But in case if Site A down our Site B does not come up using the Witness Server.

Can anybody help us in this regard?

Exchange HA and DR - 3 sites

Hi

We are implementing exchange 2013 and there are 3 sites.  Based on Microsoft PowerPoint presentations; you can have EVEN number of DAG members on site 1, even number of DAG members on site 2, and file share witness ALL BY ITSELF on site3.  This way automatic failover should occur if either site 1 or site 2 goes down  (Based on what Microsoft presentations say.)

Is this true?  I can't find any place on the Internet that says such thing is true.  May be I am not searching for the right things but still can't find anything about it

Exchange 2010 server DAG troubleshooting

We have DAG with 2 mailbox server members

Server 1 has CAS, hub and mailbox roles
Server 2 has mailbox role only

I've setup DAG between 2 servers sharing 15 databases. I'm facing 2 issues:

1. Half of the database passive copies are in Failed and Suspended state with ContentIndexState Failed

I've trying to reseed server with following commands:

Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity "DBNAME\SERVERNAME"
Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity "DBNAME\SERVERNAME" -DeleteFiles

I works sometime and fails sometime

2nd issue is I have some of the active dbs on one server and some on the other and I'm trying to bring all active dbs on one server with following command:

Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase -Identity 'DBNAME' -MountDialOverride 'BestEffort' -skiplagchecks -ActivateOnServer 'SERVERNAME'

it fails as well

How to handle Public Folders

I know my title doesn't really sound like it relates to high availability/DR, but I have a situation where Public Folders prevents access for end users when a particular member of a DAG is down. I have 4 sites running Exchange 2010. Each site has a replicated copy of all public folders. My main site has two servers, both in a DAG. I mounted all the DB's on Server2 and shut down Server1 to work on the hardware. The public folder DB is on Server1. Users could not launch Outlook, so I had to abort mission and power the Exchange server back up. It could work around this pretty easily for server maintenance by understanding this, but how are you supposed to handle Public Folders so that if a member of the DAG does go down?

DAG Failover Exchange 2013

Hi,

I am testing DAG failover. I have a 2 node DAG with a single mailbox database. The database is active on SERVER2 and has a copy on SERVER1.

I shut SERVER2 down, expecting the database to mount on SERVER1, however this has not happened. The database is showing as Active on SERVER2 with an unknown status and a bad copy count of 2. The database details show the database is passive Disconnected and Healthy on SERVER1 and Passive Service Down on SERVER2.

If I try to manually activate the database on SERVER1 it throws an error: Error getting database copy status from SERVER2.I tested Switchovers successfully before attempting to test Failover.

Any clues as to what is going on?

Simon

Database replication question

I have a quick question on database replication within my DAG.  I have 5 Exchange 2013 Enterprise servers that all host the mailbox and CAS roles and are all members of the same DAG.  3 of the servers are in our production environment and 2 are at our DR site.  The databases are all mounted on different servers in our production site and there are replicas of the databases on the DR servers.

Is there any way to configure replication so that the databases replicate from the active production server to one of the DR servers and then the other DR server can replicate from that server?  I'm trying to figure out a way to cut down on the amount of traffic we are sending between our production and DR site.  Thank you.

question about Witness server and two datacenters

Hello all, I've been tasked with setting up an Exchange 2013 DAG, I'm looking at our setup and I'm thinking about 1 DAG with 2 nodes in Datacenter A and 2 in Datacenter B.  I plan to put the Witness server in a third site that has connectivity to both data center.  We use a MPLS from a single provider so theoretically it could all go down and leave both our DataCenters in-communicated from each other and our third site.  My question is what happens to quorum at that point?  Should we lose communication between all of the sites? does the DAG dismount all of the databases?

Failover cluster name missing subnet on DAG

I've seen this multiple times and can't figure it out and end up having to recreate the DAG. On Server 2012 / Exchange 2013 I've experienced problems with the IP / subnet in failover cluster.

Its like the DAG name loses the ip address (or someone deleted it).

But the problem is when I open failover cluster manager and look at the properties of the "DAG Name" and try to add an IP address, it doesn't have the subnet that DAG nic is on. Each server has a MAPI and a DAG nic. Why does it only show the MAPI nic subnet and not the DAG nic?

Exchange 2013 - DR site

Hi all,

I want to setup a new exchange 2013 environment with DR site.
Main Site (2DC+2CAS+2MBX) DR Site (1DC+1CAS+1MBX) = 2dbcopy in mainsite & 1dbcopy in DRsite

Till now i haven't configured DR mode for my client (many techsite says that single namespace can be maintain in Exchange 2013 for multisite configuration)

My question is whether same namespace can be maintained for both site in Exchange 2013 or I need to configure different namespace as we did for Exchange 2010 multisite with DAC mode.

If I configure same namespace in both site (will DAC mode works if my mainsite fails)

What are the records & URL need to configured in my Exchange 2013 DR site.

Anyone please help me !!!

DAG DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy Blocked

I Have a DAG with a server in a DR site but it is a stretched subnet with 1 AD site (across a WAN link)

I do not want the DR server to automatically mount/activate databases, i obviously cannot use DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy intrasiteonly as they are the same AD site as the production servers...

will DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy Blocked have the desired affect?

I also want to be able to mount the databases in DR with the gui rather than having to run DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy unrestricted before mounting in a DR situation...

DAG Mailbox Store: Moving Mailboxes to different store

$

Hi,

we have the following setup:

2 Mailbox Servers, 1 DAG, 2 Mailbox Stores

MD1

MD2

We need to create a new mailbox store MD3 and move all mailboxes to that store.

i think, we can move all mailboxes with one run using Exchange Powershell, right?

When we move the mailboxes, will they be unavailable while moving or is there just a short interruption, when while finishing the move?

DAG File share witness & Quorum best practice

I am building a new environment with 2 x cas & 2 x MBX in site A and 1 x cas and 1 x MBX in DR site B

First of all what happens if I lose/turn off my FSW in a production environment in the middle of the day?

Secondly I have 3 nodes so do I need a FSW?

In a failover to DR site with 1 MBX server do I need a FSW available to mount the databases? can I not just manually mount them?

Exchange 2013 DAG with single site and 2 multi-role servers with error "MapiExceptionIllegalCrossServerConnection"

Hi,

I've got a lab with a domain controller and an Hyper-v with on it two multi-role exchange 2013 CU7 servers on W2K12 R2 OS, configured in DAG semplified (but the problem is the same also if I use the classical DAG configuration), a witness server, and a L7 load balancer for the exchange servers.

When I made the test to disable the OWA application pool where I've got the active mailbox database of the user, the balancer in correct manner redirect the session to the other exchange multi-role server, but the client in  his OWA session is no more able to send new mail with the error "Error your request can't be completed rigt now. Please try again later."

The only strange log that I see on the server in the MAPI client access directory where there is the following error message:

2015-01-21T08:00:45.132Z,956,1,/o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=1247f28558d24d4db872ab127b3e5810-Healt,,Microsoft.Exchange.RpcClientAccess.Monitoring.dll,15.0.0.0,Cached,,,,MapiHttp,Client=Microsoft.Exchange.RpcClientAccess.Monitoring,R:4ab7b6c8-54ee-4be3-aa9d-f8c856c4c47c:2,C:MAPIAAAAAOC4+7OCoZOjkqeKuoumlKSEtYO5ibyGs4bc/879z/vD9sX1zP28AwAAAAAAAA==|S:0-mGmHRQ==,OwnerLogon,0x6BB (rpc::Exception),00:00:00.0310000,"Logon: Owner, /o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=1247f28558d24d4db872ab127b3e5810-Healt in database  last mounted on Exch2.lab.net",RpcEndPoint: [ServerTooBusyException] Client is being backed off -> [ClientBackoffException] Mailbox was moved to a different mailbox server. The CAS try to access the mailbox on the other server, but without success.

Someone have idea how to solve?

Thanks

DAG Quorum scenario query

If I have site A with 3 mbx dbs and a FSW and site B with 3 mbx servers...

all servers have active/passive databases and users in site a access mail in site A and users in site B access mail in site B.

What happens if the WAN link goes down... will servers in site B go down as they dont have Quorum?

also if servers fail one by one does the node majority/file share majority automatically change all the way down to a single node left?

Multiple Edge Roles

Hi,

We have multiple CAS and Mailbox roles for High Availability. In case if any CAS server goes down, other CAS server become active. Same is with the case of Mailbox Servers.

The thing is can I implement the same for Edge Server Roles? In case if our edge server goes down, can we have more than one edge server for High Availability?

Thanks,

Anees

DAG Lagged copy recovery

I have often considered the use of a lagged database copy in a DR site but would someone explain the following:

How do you recover single item/folder from lagged copy?

How do you restore lagged copy and completely overwrite current corrupt copy?

how do you know how many log files to replay before the database was corrupted?

do the log files from the live DB get copied to the lagged copy then only replayed into it after the lag period so all live logs exist to be replayed on DR server if production server failed?

Extending MailboxDatase Volume

Just a quick question, I asked Microsoft representavive but did not get a clear answer. I am planning my storage for Exchange DAG's, so I plan to start with enough storage to migrate user mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to 2013. If I run out of space, can I extend the volume when more space is required, or for best practises I should not ? The servers are VM's on Vmware
